The Finnish Chancellor of Justice, Tuomas Pöysti, on Friday exonerated the prime minister, Sanna Marinof the allegations of negligence against him for having participated in several private parties during the European summer, the images of which have aroused strong controversy on social networks.
According to the Chancellor of Justice, in charge of supervising the legitimacy of the acts of the Government and the President of the Republic, there is no indication that Marin has violated his official duty to go to these parties.
I have no reason to suspect that Prime Minister Marin has acted incorrectly in his official capacity as minister or that he has abandoned his functions “, concluded Pöysti after having analyzed in depth several complaints submitted by citizens.
They accused Marin, among other things, of not being able to perform their duties for having consumed a large amount of alcohol, without having previously surrendered his duties to another minister on weekends during the holidays.
Poysti refuted this allegation, arguing that the complaints did not specify which official work could not be performed or which specific function had been compromised due to the Prime Minister’s behavior.
The complaints filed also accused Marin of not behaving in a manner worthy of the dignity of head of government, showing an attitude that tarnished Finland’s international reputation.
However, the Chancellor recalled that the obligation of officials to maintain good conduct it does not apply to ministerswhich are supervised directly – and if necessary, deposed – by the Eduskunta (Parliament).
“It is not for the Chancellor of Justice, as the supreme authority in matters of legality, to assess the morality of a minister’s conduct or matters relating to his political credibility or the confidence he enjoys,” Pöysti said in his opinion.
Marin was also accused endangering the security of the statehaving organized a party at his official residence without having previously examined the guests.
However, according to the Chancellor, the official residence of the Head of Government can be used for private events as well it is not mandatory for security teams to monitor participants.
Marin, 36, appeared in media around the world last August, after leaking a video in which she appeared singing and dancing at a private party with a group of famous people in her country.
social democratic leader voluntarily subjected to drug testing to deny the rumors, spread by social networks, that he had taken drugs, but the same day his innocence was proved, a new controversy arose.
The press also released a photo of two of Marin’s friends kissing almost shirtless at a party in early July at the prime minister’s official residence, the day after attending a rock festival.
