North Korea launched four short-range ballistic missiles at sea on Saturday, the South Korean military said. It is the latest of many weapons tests carried out by Pyongyang this week, which have heightened tensions in the region.
According to South Korean joint chiefs of staff, the bullets traveled about 130 kilometers (80 miles) in waters west of North Korea.
The North Korean military launched dozens of missiles into the sea this week, including an ICBM that triggered evacuation alerts in northern Japan and conducted warplane flights within its territory.
Pyongyang said its actions were an appropriate response to the joint air exercises of the United States and its southern neighbor, calling it a display of the “military confrontation hysteria” of the United States.
Also on Saturday, the United States flew over South Korea with two B-1B supersonic bombers in the final stretch of military exercises, in a show of force that seeks to intimidate the North in the face of increased weapons testing.
