JERUSALEM (Reuters) – US President Joe Biden congratulated former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday on his election victory and said Washington would watch closely as Netanyahu forms a government likely to include religious parties and the far right.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden “reaffirms the strength of the bilateral partnership and underlines his unwavering support for Israeli security”.
“We will continue to closely monitor the government formation process,” Jean-Pierre said. said.
After the call, Netanyahu wrote on Twitter that he told Biden “they can sign more peace deals and deal with the threat of Iranian aggression”.
Israel, with US support, normalized relations with the UAE and Bahrain during Netanyahu’s previous tenure.
Israel’s fifth election in less than four years confirmed the return of Netanyahu, who is now ultranationalist and backed by smaller religious parties.
