Amid government transition efforts, President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received phone calls from at least five international authorities today.
In between phone calls, he met with Peruvian President Pedro Castillo and Argentina Vice President Cristina Kirchner Lula. Officials congratulated Lula on his election victory and suggested scheduling a meeting with the incoming president to strengthen relations with the Brazilian government.
In addition to two Latin American politicians, the elected president met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rute, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves and European Union High Commissioner for International Affairs Josep Borrell.
The president also spoke by phone with US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron in the days after the election. Argentine President Alberto Fernandez arrived in Brazil to celebrate PT’s victory.
