According to ABC News, one of the planes involved in the accident was a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. The other was the Bell P-63 Kingcobra. Both attended the event held at the US government-owned Dallas Executive Airport.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the aircraft’s model and said so far the number of passengers on each was “uncertain”.

Rescuers had been dispatched, the Commemorative Air Force Over Dallas, which was also responsible for organizing the incident, said in a statement. “We are working in collaboration with the authorities to investigate the cause of the accident,” he said.

The city’s mayor, Eric Johnson, described the crash as a “terrible tragedy” in a social media post and told the National Transportation Safety Board.
