A dramatic and fateful sequence occurred in China when a Tesla vehicle that was supposed to park on the side of a road, accelerated to full speed on the streets of the town of Ghaozhou, Guangdong province, and caused the death of two people who it rammed during its passage, at about 200 kilometers per hour.
The episode took place on November 5, but the video went viral on networks on Sunday. There the Model-Y is seen attempting to stop on the side of a road, with a 55-year-old man aboard. However, the compact SUV then lunges and tumbles behind a motorcycle, missing by inches.
The rest of the series is chilling.. The department of the company founded and directed by Elon Musk crossed the city making dangerous maneuvers, colliding with a motorcyclist and a cyclist, and then collided with another vehicle, before completely losing control and crashing into a shop.
As reported by local media News Jimu, a motorcyclist and a high school student lost their liveswhile others three people were injured. The authorities of the town in southern China are investigating the possible causes of the accident, while Tesla has warned that he will provide his collaboration to clarify the fact.
The same source assured that a relative of the driver revealed that the man had brake pedal problems when it was about to stop, which has not yet been possible to verify and which is even denied by the video, where the traffic lights are not visible.
What the traffic police would have ruled out is that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
According to Tesla’s official website, “all cars” of the company “are equipped with advanced hardware capable of providing autopilot functions and fully autonomous driving capabilities through software updates designed to improve functionality over time”.
Whilst noting that “autopilot allows your car to automatically turn, accelerate and brake within the lane”, he clarifies that “current autopilot capabilities require a active supervision of the driver and do not allow the car to be autonomous”.
Protest against Tesla for ‘defects in their cars’
In Norway, the country where Tesla sells the most cars per capita, users of the Model 3 and Model-Y, the very one that spearheaded the lethal onslaught in China, carried out a unprecedented outcry over the failures in their units.
The owners of 17 vehicles of the brand have decided to go on a hunger strike and protest in one of the car parks of the plant. The particular statement, far from attracting the attention of the customer service areas of the company, has received a teasing on social media by Elon Musk.
“On the advice of a great friend, I have been fasting periodically and feel healthier,” the South African entrepreneur said on Twitter, his favorite communication channel. Beyond the irony, no one from Tesla has spoken out on the claims or presented a solution.
Affected customers have joined the complaint to make their complaint heard and have even created a web page where they have published the breakdown list of their vehicles. They point out that, prior to the proposals, Tesla employees promise to contact them and never do or that they directly spend hours waiting to be heard on the customer service phone.
