Pope Francis on Wednesday denounced the latest wave of missile attacks on Ukraine, called for a ceasefire to avoid the risk of escalation, and urged God to “rush” to end the war.

While NATO allies investigated reports of an explosion in a Polish village near the Ukrainian border, St. He spoke to the general audience in St. Peter’s Square. He did not mention the incident.

“I learned with pain and anxiety of a new and more severe missile attack on Ukraine, which killed many civilians and damaged infrastructure,” said Francis Italian.

“Let’s pray that the Lord will turn the hearts of those who still trust in war and make the desire for peace prevail in the martyred Ukraine, in order to prevent tensions and pave the way for truce and dialogue,” he said.

In other comments about Ukraine a few minutes later, he said, “If you want, we can pray for Ukraine by saying ‘Hurry up God'”.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Russia launched 110 missiles and 10 Iranian-made drones into Ukraine on Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that the main target of the missile shower, as before, was energy infrastructure, but added that only 10 planned targets were hit.

For the first time last month, Francis directly pleaded with Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the “spiral of violence and death” in Ukraine.
