LIMA (Reuters) – Two firefighters were killed when a Latam Airlines plane collided with a fire truck on the runway during takeoff at Peru’s capital’s Jorge Chávez International Airport on Friday.
The company said no passengers or crew were killed in the crash.
“Unfortunately, two aviation firefighters have died,” firefighter commander Luis Ponce told local television channel Canal N.
Lima Airport Partners, which operates the country’s main airport, the Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, previously reported that all passengers were unharmed.
Footage posted on Twitter by local radio station RPP Notícias shows a Latam Airlines plane burning on the runway.
Latam said that the flight involved in the crash, flight LA2213, covered the domestic route between Lima and Juliaca.
This is the second incident in less than a month involving Latam Airlines after one of its aircraft suffered damage to its nose in a severe storm that caused an emergency landing.
