Morgan Freeman was at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and she was wearing an accessory that caught the attention of many onlookers.
Those who follow the actor day by day probably know what it is. But those not used to seeing him outside of his productions may have found it a little strange to see him with him a glove in the heat of Qatar.
The American actor has been using a special glove regularly since 2008when he was in a car accident in Mississippi that severely injured his left hand.
Freeman’s car went off the road, rolled several times and ended up in a ditch. As a result, the actor’s hand was paralyzed. Since, Freeman needs the glove to stimulate blood flow.
“Since I can’t move it, the hand swells,” explained the actor a few years ago.
It is worth noting that Freeman also suffers fibromyalgiaa chronic condition that causes pain throughout the body, fatigue and other symptoms, and people who suffer from it are more sensitive to pain than those who do not suffer from it.
Why was Morgan Freeman at the opening ceremony?
Undoubtedly, the presence of the 85-year-old Hollywood star was one of the big surprises of the World Cup opening ceremony.
Freeman gave a speech on uniting through football: “What unites us is greater than what divides us. We are one great tribe and the Earth is our shop. Together we can call all of us to unite”.
“This is an appeal to the whole world. Football unites people and nations. There is a common thread of hope and respect. Football expands the world, unites nations in their love for this precious game. What unites nations unites communities. We all have a history of football, and Qatar too,” she continued.
The artist was accompanied by Ghanim Al MuftahPhilanthropist, entrepreneur and influencer from Qatar, suffering from caudal regression syndrome (a rare disease that prevents him from moving the lower part of the spine). Both spoke from the center of the playing field.
After finishing his presentation, Morgan withdrew but reappeared minutes later to present an emotional video depicting Qatar’s dream of hosting the World Cup, in which the Emir of this country is seen playing football with his son and his friends.
The international press that traveled to Qatar to cover the World Cup had indicated that the “surprise ambassador” of the world event would be the American actor, chosen in response to criticisms of human rights, sustainability and the way the work for the World Cup was handled by the tournament.
