Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke by phone with someone posing as French President Emmanuel Macron about the missile that crashed into a village in the east of the country.
Two Russian comedians co-authored an audio recording posted on the Internet.
Comedy duo Vovan and Lexus, whose real names are Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, often fool politicians and celebrities with their phone pranks.
“After the missile explosion in Przewodow, during a series of meetings with heads of state and government, a call came from a person claiming to be French President Emmanuel Macron,” Duda’s office said.
“Mr Duda understood during the conversation (…) that this might be an attempt to deceive and hung up,” said the Polish Presidency.
Asked by AFP whether they were responsible for the call, Russian comedians confirmed.
They stated, “We said (…) on all social networks and we also posted a video.”
In this Tuesday recording, a person with a strong Russian accent claims to be the president of France. Two heads of state talk about the explosion of a missile in Poland that killed two people.
Poland said the explosion was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile, although initial speculations pointed to Russia.
