A 5-year-old boy was rescued from a swimming pool after surviving an attack from a 3-metre-long python. The animal became entangled in the boy’s leg in Byron Bay, Australia, according to local website 7 News.

A boy named Beau Blake was walking by the pool when he was bitten by the snake and was dragged into the water as the snake coiled around him and squeezed his leg. The father and grandfather, who were close to the scene, rescued the child from the animal, which was three times the size of the child.

His 76-year-old grandfather jumped into the pool to save him. He managed to pull the boy out of the water, and then the boy’s father pulled the snake out of his leg.

The boy has been taken to Byron Bay Sand Hospital and is recovering at home from the bite. His family kept him at home away from school to ensure his recovery.

Beau’s father Ben said, “We were just sitting there watching them swim, they were going to jump in the pool and suddenly boom! It was like a black shadow came out of the weeds.”

Ben isn’t sure if Beau accidentally stepped on the snake or scared him away, but as soon as the snake grabbed it, the boy rolled over and fell into the pool. The animal quickly coiled around his legs.

“We both rushed to her aid,” Ben said. As soon as Beau was out of the pool, it took my father about 15 to 20 seconds to remove the snake from his ankle.

As for the snake, Ben said after taking it from Beau he held it for about 10 minutes and then released it back into the garden.

“Snake season, they’re out,” Ben said.

Beau’s mother, Tesse Ferguson, shared details of the dramatic moment on social media, warning other parents to “keep your eyes peeled”.

“We were lucky to get a quick response and it took a lot of effort to pull the python strapped to his leg. Give my kids a big hug tonight. Parents, the unthinkable can happen!” said.

While Beau was “very shaken up”, Tesse said the family was grateful that she was fine and not more seriously injured.
