“We can not look for the other side in front of political prisoners in Nicaragua,” Chilean president Gabriel Boric fired. “(There are) 11 women murdered every day here in Mexico, brutally. We do not naturalize this violence,” he reloaded and fired again. The Mexican Senate listened to him in full between applause from the opposing bench. It was Thursday. López Obrador replied this Friday.
“We we respect a lot to President Boric”, he said laconically when asked by the press.
with your words, Boric indelibly sealed his official visit to Mexico, one of the member countries of the club of Latin American nations governed by the left. But the Chilean marked his differences.
Boric described this Thursday as “brutal” the number of feminicides in Mexico and urged to resolve regional human rights issues such as political prisoners in Nicaragua and immigration.
The statement, before the Mexican Senate, was given in response to posters with the message “We miss them” which the legislators placed on their seats, on the eve of the commemoration of International day for the elimination of violence against womenwhich was held this Friday.
“I guess it has to do with femicides; 11 women, 11 women every day killed here in Mexico: brutalBoric said after hearing the figure some opposition lawmakers loudly told him that it is an estimate by human rights organizations.
According to official data, up to October this year, 792 murders of women were classified by the authorities as feminicides. In 2021, the figure reached 1,016 cases.
“Let’s not naturalize this violence, we must fight it together,” added the Chilean president.
Boric welcomed the fact that the fight against feminicide attacks in Mexico “It’s not a political issue. but I see that it is totally transversal”, noting that the placards were in all the seats.
Local media reported, however, that the posters were put up by opposition lawmakersin particular by the right-wing National Action Party (PAN).
Nicaragua
Boric stressed that Latin American countries “cannot look the other way” when faced with problems such as irregular immigration or “political prisoners in Nicaragua”, recalling that the ovation of the opponents began President López Obrador.
“We cannot look to the side when in any country of our Latin America (…) human rights are violated“, he has declared.
After the Chilean leader’s speech, the legislators of the Plural Group, opposed to López Obrador, displayed a banner with the message “Boric doesn’t protect assassins in Nicaragua like AMLO”.
Then the Mexican president avoided speaking. But this Friday he decided to speak.
“We respect President Boric a lot, as we respect all presidents, especially in his case, who comes from a left-wing movement, and obviously is completely free to demonstrate, to express himself,” commented López Obrador.
