The volcano mauna loa from Hawaii, the largest in the world still active, it erupted on Monday for the first time in nearly 40 years.
The Hawaiian Emergency Management Agency said on Twitter the eruption, for the moment, is limited to the area of the volcano’s caldera and presents no risk to the communities at the base of the mountain.
However, the same agency has warned that They have opened some shelters as a precaution.
Concern for the Mauna Loa volcano
“About half of Mauna Loa’s recorded eruptions have been confined to the caldera area without posing any danger to nearby populations,” the office said.
The US National Weather Service has also ensured that an ash residue can build up “less than a quarter of an inch” in some parts of the island, so they advised people with respiratory problems not to go outside from home to avoid inhaling airborne particles.
