Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has said he should apologize for having dinner with rapper Kanye West and white supremacist Nick Fuentes, with recent controversies such as former candidate Donald Trump’s anti-Semitic remarks and racist remarks last week.
For Pence, Trump showed a “lack of deep judgment”. The politician also stated that the food will not add anything to him.
The remarks were made in a live interview for TV News Nation yesterday (28). According to him, “President Trump was wrong to have a white supremacist, an anti-Semite, and a Holocaust denier at the table, and I think he should apologize for that.” However, for the Republican, Trump would not be anti-Semitic, racist, or fanatical.
The former president, on his social network “Truth Social”, said that the dinner was intended to give business advice to Kanye West and that he did not know Fuentes.
The echo was negative even within the party
The trio’s meeting has caused great political trouble for Trump. A Jewish wing of the Republicans turned away from him. Trump’s Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, described the dinner as “unacceptable” and said Trump would get better than that. Trump’s opponents within the Party also criticized him. According to Bill Cassidy, one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in the second impeachment trial, “The fact that President Trump has racist anti-Semites at dinner encourages other racist anti-Semites.”
According to the New York Times, a White House spokesperson said there is no place for anti-Semitism in the United States, “including Mar-a-Lago,” the luxury resort where Trump currently resides.
