“The prodigy” on Netflix: is Florence Pugh’s new film inspired by a true story?

Netflix recently released a movie starring the actress Florence Pug which was acclaimed at various international film festivals. “The Wonder” is based on a book by Emma Donogue released in 2016, but it actually tells a true story.

What is “The Wonder” about?

The feature film is an adaptation of a novel by Emma Donoghue, whose story follows Anna O’Donnella girl who mysteriously manages to stay alive and healthy without eating for months in a small Irish town in 1862.

A nurse, played by Pugh, is sent to investigate the case and find out what is wrong with Anna. But the curious thing about this story is not the fantastic context, but the fact that it is inspired by a real event.

During the Victorian era, there were numerous stories that tell of the Fasting girlsa group of women who said they could go long periods of time without eating and not suffer any kind of effects.

The best known case was that of Mollie Fanchera Brooklyn woman who insured her 19 years old, having not eaten for seven weeks.
