Jens Stoltenberg, head of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), thinks Russia is responsible for not having a chance to negotiate with Ukraine. According to the news of the British Financial Times newspaper, as Russia prepares for an attack in the spring, it asked the member states of the alliance to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine.
More than nine months after the conflict, Stoltenberg says a peaceful solution to end the war between the countries “doesn’t exist right now”. “The conditions (for negotiations) do not currently exist because Russia has shown no signs of cooperating in negotiations that respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Last week, US President Joe Biden said he was ready for dialogue with Vladimir Putin to discuss a way to end the war. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed, telling Putin “to reach a diplomatic solution as soon as possible, including the withdrawal of Russian troops.”
Stoltenberg also stated that Russia wants to start a war and prepare for a new offensive in early 2023.
Justifying his request to continue sending weapons during possible peace talks, Stoltenberg said, “The paradox is that the more we want a peaceful and negotiated solution that allows Ukraine to prevail, the more urgent it is to provide military support to Ukraine.”
