The Brazilian government said it viewed the political crisis in Peru with “concern” and classified President Pedro Castillo’s action as a “violation of the validity of democracy and the rule of law”.
Earlier, Castillo announced to the Nation that he would dissolve the National Congress and form an “extraordinary emergency government” to call for new elections and then change the country’s constitution.
“Measures adopted by President Pedro Castillo today, December 7, that are incompatible with the constitutional framework of that country, are against the validity of democracy and the rule of law. Peru” is a quote from the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We lost Peru,” Bolsonaro said at an evangelical event in July 2021, with Castillo’s election imminent. The Peruvian president is left-wing in economics, but conservative in customs, and is seen as authoritarian by the opposition in the neighboring country.
