Standing on a precarious stage in the central Plaza San Martín de Lima, Andrés, one of Pedro Castillo’s militants, took the microphone and harangued the former president’s thousand followers before tear gas from the Peruvian police fell.

“They are underestimating us, They think we will get stuck in the World Cup. No, comrades, people from the provinces respond, they don’t speak, they come with their chipotes to defend themselves because if they throw a tear gas canister at them with their own maraca, they take it and return it,” said Andrés, announcing that the march will be held this Friday at 5pm.

The reference to the provinces marks the sectors where Castillo still has backup. On Thursday after 21:00 blockades began in the Panamericana Sur, at the height of Ica and also Arequipa. The cuts are at kilometer 261, at the height of Chinatown and at kilometer 299, at El Alamo, among others.

“We are 33 million Peruvians and these fascists are a minority. There is a new day of struggle, bring your vinegar, your gloves and be careful, protect yourself, we are not doing anything wrong here. We demand that President Castillo return to government and that these miserable traitors go away. We’re done, let’s all go home because they are dropping bombs,” militant Castillo said.

He had earlier harangued supporters of the former president by saying that the Mexican ambassador in Peru had visited Castillo in Diroes prison.

Thursday night several cars were stranded in both directions of the Panamericana Sur, while the transport companies Ticket sales have been suspended towards the regions of Moquegua, Tacna, and towards Ica, Lima.

Protests and gas in the center of Lima

The day after Pedro Castillo’s self-coup attempt and his ousting as president of Peru, a thousand demonstrators rallied in support of the now ex-president. They demanded his release and the dissolution of Parliament. At the end of the act there were clashes with the police, who arrested three people.

Tension was growing in the concentration in Plaza San Martín, in downtown Lima, where the militants of the Peruvian left referent had arrived. What began as a show of defense of Castillo, with preparations for a march this Friday, has culminated in bullfights, clashes and tear gas.

Running, yelling and insulting the Police. The demonstrators, who had expressed themselves peacefully until then, dispersed in a disorderly manner. They brought the banners with them. “Pedro Castillo, Peru is with you!” and “If there is no liberation, there will be a revolution!” were some of the inscriptions.
