Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 10 people, five of them children, were killed in a fire this morning in a residential building in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon, France. In the accident, 14 people were injured, 4 of them seriously.
Darmanin said the cause of the fire is not yet known. “There are several scenarios and an investigation will be launched,” said the minister, adding that he is in contact with President Emmanuel Macron regarding the incident.
Firefighters told local media that the fire started on the ground floor and then spread to seven floors of the residential building. Police cordoned off the building’s perimeter so firefighters could get the fire under control.
