George Anthony return-santosAccording to information from The New York Times and CNN International, the son of a Brazilian immigrant family who was elected to the Republican party in the United States misrepresented parts of his professional and academic curriculum.

According to the Times, public documents and cases were analyzed in both the United States and Brazil; this contrasts with the “essential parts of the curriculum” that Santos propagated to American voters during his victorious campaign for the US House of Representatives.

Financial institutions Citigroup and Goldman Sachs reported to the newspaper that there were no records of George integrating the team of professionals from these companies as he claimed.

Regarding his academic abilities, which included degrees in finance and economics from Baruch College and New York University, the republican apparently also misrepresented this information.

He claims there is no record of graduating from the institution in 2010 when Baruch College officials told the NYT that someone by that name had graduated there. A spokesperson for New York University told CNN that the institution’s records did not contain anyone named “by that name – George Anthony Devolder-Santos”.

George Santos posted a note on Instagram, signed by his lawyer Joseph Murray, in which he said he was the victim of “slanderous allegations” spread by The New York Times.

“It is not surprising that the elected MP has enemies in the NYT trying to tarnish his reputation with these defamatory allegations,” the statement said.

Victory in an unprecedented conflict. George Santos was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives after overthrowing Democrat Robert Zimmerman. It was the first time two gay candidates were vying for a seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

A Republican, Santos was born and raised in Queens, New York, and is a supporter of former US President Donald Trump. He also praised Brazil’s current president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in his posts on social networks, and has a photo with his son, re-elected federal lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).

The guidelines advocated by Santos are mostly economic in scope and focus on “saving the American dream”. “There is so much more to be done for this country. Under the Biden administration, the American dream is still in jeopardy. I will use my skills to reduce crippling inflation and keep our communities safe,” he wrote.
