This December 21st, the solstice will start summer in the southern hemisphere; and in winter, in the north. As magical as they are dates, the solstices mark changes, anticipations and renewals; cycles that end and new stages that begin.
There will be three days, from 21 to 24 December, in which the star king it will seem stop his march to then begin its slow return to the north of the planet.
The story goes that since ancient times cultures have celebrated the solstices, both in summer and in winter, as points of initiation and spiritual purification.
Thus, for centuries, the Summer solstice -either June 21st or December 21st- has been revered around the world with all kinds of ceremonies. Although many of them have already disappeared, some rituals they still remain.
From the festivals of Stonehenge, in Great Britain, to the meetings in the pyramid of Chichen Itzá, in Mexico, they are manifold rituals which are launched to celebrate this impressive astronomical phenomenon.
However, you don’t need to travel or move to welcome the new season and take advantage of all the powerful energy of the longest day of the year.
December solstice ritual for prosperity and abundance
The Summer solstice It is linked, in a symbolic way, to the Sun, to the heat, to the crops, to the abundance and fertility.
Also, in the middle of the season CapricornIn these three days of the solstice, a disciplined, responsible and enterprising energy prevails, ideal for thinking about our future.
Is that Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn, so these days are ideal to do rituals to stimulate prosperity, money and business.
On the nights of 21, 22 and 23 December an altar is prepared with a golden (or yellow) candle and a handful of coarse salt. On a white sheet we write all the goals we want to achieve, whether they are in the workplace or in the economy; we fold it in two and place it next to the candle.
We light the candle, repeat aloud three times the wishes that we write on the sheet and say “Thanks thanks thanks”.
When the candle goes out, we throw the salt into a pot or place with earth and burn the paper.
December solstice ritual to renew energy and protect us from envy
The Summer solstice It opens a door for us to change our energy, to give our routine a breath of fresh air, and to get rid of all the “bad vibes” around us.
We prepare an altar with a white candle, to light our way, and a violet (or purple) candle to transmute all the negative. Next we place a glass of water and lavender or lemon incense.
After lighting the candles, we imagine ourselves enveloped in a white aura and thank the Universe for allowing us to surround ourselves with positive energy. When we finish, we say: “Thanks thanks thanks”.
When the candles go out, we pour water into a pot or place with earth with our left hand.
At that moment, the ideal is to take a discharge bath: when we finish taking a shower, we throw a mixture of lavender-scented water from the neck down. In this way we are already ready to receive all the good and the news that the Universe has in store for us.
