Protesters clashed with police near the place where a gunman killed three Kurdish activists this morning in central Paris.
According to information received from international organizations, the conflict started with the visit of French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin to the region.
Police used tear gas to stop the protesters, who were angry at the deaths, throwing trash cans, damaging cars and restaurant tables.
Earlier, a 69-year-old Frenchman was arrested after shooting outside a Kurdish cultural center in the French capital. He killed three people, all of whom were Kurdish activists, and injured three others. At least one of them is in serious condition.
The prosecution is investigating whether the attack was carried out with a racist motive. The suspect, a retired train conductor, had already been convicted after attacking a refugee camp with a sword late last year.
Kurdish leaders in Paris are calling for greater protection for their communities, as this is not the first time the ethnic group has been targeted in such attacks. In 2013, three Kurdish women were killed in the French capital.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said in a statement on her social media account that “Kurds should be able to live in peace and security no matter where they live.” “Paris is with them more than ever in these dark times.”
