British firefighters believe a dog accidentally started a hair dryer on Christmas Eve, causing a fire in the house.
Essex Fire Brigade in eastern England said it was responding to a call after it was reported that a house was filling up with smoke.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in the bedroom in a short time.
The company said the dog was waiting at the front door of the house when the owner returned, and they were both treated for smoke inhalation.
“The owner of the house was outside and when he came back he found his house full of smoke,” said firefighter Gary Shinn.
“We believe the fire started because the hair dryer was left plugged in and on the bed.”
“We think the dog jumped on the bed and accidentally turned on the hairdryer, causing the bed and mattress to catch fire.”
“After you’ve finished using electrical appliances like hair dryers and curling irons, take a moment to unplug them,” she warned.
