About 130 immigrants, including families with children, were loaded onto buses by Texas officials and dropped off near the Washington home of US Vice President Kamala Harris over the Christmas weekend.
The information was provided by Tatiana Laborde, executive director of SAMU First Response, a Washington-based charity.
He says aid groups have been briefed on the transport of migrants and are waiting to distribute blankets and take them to a church in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The US has been facing a freezing cold for weeks.
Greg Abbott’s Texas government did not comment on the relocation of immigrants. He criticizes Joe Biden’s immigration policies.
Some Republican governors are moving immigrants to Democrat-led cities in the northern US. Last week, nine migrant buses were dropped off in Washington.
“Recently, we’ve seen an increase in the number of people coming from Ecuador and Colombia,” said Tatiana Laborde. She added that many Venezuelans have come by bus before.
Most newcomers try to get to New York or New Jersey, where they have family or community support.
