War in Ukraine: Putin says Mariupol is already Russian, imprisoning Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in Azovstal steel mill
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that his troops taken “successfully” control of the city of Mariupol in Ukraineand ordered to leave the attack on the last fighters buried in the Azovstal industrial plant, without carrying out the attack.

“It is doubtful that he controls Mariupol,” Biden said. “There is still no proof that Mariupol has completely collapsed.”
But Putin, after nearly 60 days of war, will have to show some sort of victory, as his main offensive in the East continues slowly and with little progress.

The mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boychenko, on Thursday called for a real “lasting ceasefire” of “at least one day” to try to evacuate civilian refugees at the Azovstal steel mill and confirmed that the city is “Ukrainian”, when asked if it was controlled by the Russians.
