Furthermore, he recalled the numerous disappearances and tortures suffered by the left in Brazil. In this sense, he remarked that “they have never seen a left-wing party” create situations of this type. “It is something unprecedented in the history of the country”, she underlined, from São Paulo.

Then he read the decree with which he will try to restore order in Brasilia, the city he will travel to.

With this regulation he decreed “federal intervention in Brasilia until January 31 to restore public order to contain the compromise of public order”. The intervention will take place “in the area of public safety”, he clarified.

He assured that the perpetrators of the acts of violence “will be sought and punished with the full order of the law”. Also, he said he will investigate who was behind the financing of this episode.

“I’ll find out who paid for the buses, their stay, the food, the meat they ate. I’ll find out who did it. And if there’s been an omission in the federal government, they’ll be punished too.”

Lula’s furious criticism of Bolsonaro: “Genocide”

In the last stretch of his public appearance, Lula da Silva interrogated in harsh terms Jair Bolsonaro, the former president who traveled to Orlando (United States), did not participate in the transfer of command and did not even acknowledge the election result.

“Unfortunately, the genocide that left power almost didn’t leave enough money to deal with these disasters. It left nothing for us to take care of the city, the federal state,” Lula said.

“I lost the 1989 election, I lost the 1994 election, I lost the 1998 election, and at no time did they see a member of my party do that,” he distanced himself from his predecessor.

“The former president not only provoked it, not only encouraged it, but he is encouraging other people through social networks to continue with this. He escaped and went crazy,” she said.

And he underlined his criticisms of Bolsonaro: “Everyone knows that there are several speeches by the former president that encourage him. This is also his responsibility”.

Then he continued to speak of the excesses and destruction at Palazzo Planalto, the Palace of Justice and the Congress. And he also sent a harsh message to the Federal Police of Brasilia, for their alleged complicity with the demonstrators.

“They invaded the institutions, they did a lot of damage. Unfortunately, the one who was supposed to guarantee security was the Military Police of the Federal District, and they didn’t do it,” he added.

For this reason, Lula spoke of “bad faith”, “incompetence” and “bad will” and argued that the images show the officers “leading” Bolsonaro’s ranks on their way to the government buildings.

“These policemen will not be able to continue in force, they will not go unpunished”, remarked the president of Brazil. He also promised that he would “hold accountable” the political parties that backed the takeover of the three buildings.
