The president of kilos, Gabriel Boricoled a regional cabinet meeting on Wednesday in Aysén, south of Santiago, where he said relations with Argentina are having “an excellent moment”, and at the same time supported the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejolain the face of the controversy over the audio leaked by the Farnesina with criticism of the Argentine ambassador Raffaele Bielsa.
“As for what is most important to me, and I expect it to be most important to all political actors, our relations with Argentina are in an excellent moment. So we discussed it with President (Alberto) Fernández and with Foreign Minister (Santiago) Cafiero,” Boric said at a press conference.
“You can see the statements by President Fernández, where he completely lowers his profile and says so there is no problem in relations between stateswhich is what I’m supposed to protect,” the president added.
Regarding the controversy over the leaked audios, in which Urrejola talks about the Argentine ambassador in Santiago, Rafael Bielsa, Boric supported the minister and said that “instances like this should not be recorded or filtered” and that It is a question that “the Farnesina must resolve”.
“Minister Urrejola, who has extraordinary experience in international matters, you have all my trust. Here we must not anticipate changes, I permanently evaluate my ministers, but the internal issues of the Farnesina must be resolved within the Farnesina”, concluded the Chilean head of government.
On Tuesday, Lorena Díaz, Director of Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tendered her resignation due to the audio leak in which Urrejola is heard talking about Ambassador Bielsa.
In the audio, one can listen to the Farnesina staff in a private session in which they discuss the response they would give to the criticisms that the Argentine ambassador expressed last Friday against the Government for not having communicated the rejection of the Committee of Ministers to the mining project by Dominga.
“This venture was one of the alternatives that Agua Negra would have had as a port. It would be nice for us to be informed, nothing more. As it has an impact on bilateral relations, we wanted you to be informed, Bielsa told the Senate Foreign Relations Commission .
This led to Urrejola; his chief of staff, Carolina Muñoz, and her policy team met to discuss how to respond to the leaked statements.
The events occurred while Boric was in Buenos Aires to participate in the VII Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
