Actor and singer Yang Dong-geun (44) donated 10 million won to victims of the earthquake in Turkey. Following last year’s donation of 10 million won for war victims in Ukraine, he is once again doing a good deed.
At around 10:00 am on the 8th, Yang Dong-geun met Turkish Ambassador to Korea Salih Murat Tamer at the Turkish Embassy in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul and deposited relief money, asking him to use it for the Turkish people.
Yang Dong-geun said, “I was so heartbroken to see the article and the picture of the father of Turkiye holding the hand of the dead baby and going crazy.” The pain at the time was indescribable. With the same fatherly heart, I convey my deep condolences to the victims of Turkiye.”
The picture Yang Dong-geun mentioned is a picture of a father’s regretful infidelity, who can’t bear to let go of his daughter’s hand who died under the rubble of a building. It was filmed in Kahramanmaras, a city in southeast Turkey, and the British daily Guardian reported that nothing better reveals the suffering of Kahramanmaras than the picture of a sad woman in the picture.
Regarding Yang Dong-geun’s donation, the Turkish Embassy said, “Thank you very much for your help,” and “I realize that we are a country of brothers. I feel that heart. Thank you for reaching out your hand first.”
Yang Dong-geun’s good deed was also in March of last year. At that time, Yang Dong-geun delivered a picture drawn by her daughter to the Ukrainian embassy in Korea along with 10 million won to write for the people of Ukraine affected by the war.
Yang Dong-geun said, “How hard it must be for the Ukrainian people who are separated from their families and are standing at the crossroads of life and death. It’s not like someone else’s business,” he said. “I want to convey love and comfort to the victims and their families in Ukraine, even if it is weak.”
