Like The Exorcist, but decades later. In Linares, Spain, a terrible episode took place that could have ended as badly as the one in the film, but luckily for the victim, it ended abruptly when the police arrived.
Everything began to unravel on January 23 at 20:00, when a group of policemen showed up at a house in the municipality of Jaén for an alleged case of gender-based violence.
When the law knocked on the door, a Pakistani man and woman opened it and denied that anything bad was happening inside their house. But the newcomers sensed that something was not closing when, suddenly, they heard a woman’s screams coming from inside.
As a result, the officers forcibly entered and saw a large man grappling with a young woman kneeling on a bed. According to La Vanguardia, the man tried to prevent the girl from asking for her help by covering her mouth and holding her wrists.
Seeing this, the police arrested the man and found him the woman had visible marks on her arms, face and lips. The woman’s deplorable health conditions also led to the arrest of the two people who had opened the door for her, denying that anything unusual was happening in her home.
Those arrested are none other than the parents and ex-father-in-law of the victim. As if the kidnapping itself wasn’t terrifying enough, things got worse when the agents found out the woman had spent at least 22 days in solitary confinement, gagged and malnourished.
“He had evil in his body”
The explanation given by the inmates regarding the kidnapping and the assault was that they believed that the woman “he had evil in his body”. They kept her there because they wanted to exorcise her..
For them, the young woman needed to “drive the devil out of her body” through the intervention of a priest who would heal her by “breathing on her”.
The three detainees were transferred to the Police Headquarters and made available to the Judicial Authorities.
The victim stated that a month ago she had arrived from abroad at her parents’ house and that they detained her on the first day at home against her will, leaving the front door locked to prevent her from leaving.
Of the third arrested, the former father-in-law, who also lived in the same house, said he had come to Linares on purpose to treat her.
