The Disaster Management Agency expects the death toll to rise further as search and construction work is underway on buildings and wreckage that collapsed in the earthquake.

The number of injured is estimated to be over 92,600.

Previously, CNN reported that the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria that day was tallied at 28,192.

Vice-President Puat Okthai Turkiye announced at a press conference that the death toll in Turkiye alone was 24,617.

White Helmets estimated 3575 deaths across Syria on the 11th. There are 5276 injured.

1,387 of the deaths were said to be from rebel-held areas in northwestern Syria.

The Syrian Ministry of Health said the number of reported deaths in government-controlled areas had reached 1,408.

UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths expressed concern that earthquake relief and support are not being carried out properly due to the complex situation in northwestern Syria, which has been in a state of civil war for over 12 years.

UNHCR said the earthquake destroyed thousands of buildings in Turkey and Syria, leaving 5.3 million people in need of shelter.
