An 800-year-old mummy was found inside a Peruvian man’s delivery bag. Her male claimed that her mummy was her own and her ‘spiritual girlfriend’, but her investigation revealed that the mummy was her ‘male in his 40s’.
American CNN and others reported on the 1st (local time) about Julio Cesar Bermejo (26), who claimed that the centuries-old mummy was his ‘mental girlfriend’. Peruvian police unexpectedly questioned Bermejo, who was drinking beer with two acquaintances near an archaeological site in Puno, Peru, on Saturday, the 25th.
Police searched Bermejo’s delivery bag and found a mummy wrapped in cloth inside. When questioned by the police about where her mummy came from, Bermejo claimed that the mummy was named ‘Juanita’ and that she was her ‘spiritual girlfriend’.
According to Bermejo, ‘Juanita’ is a mummy passed down to him by Bermejo’s father, and has been with the family for the past 30 years. In an interview with local media, Bermejo said he and Juanita lived in a bedroom with a television and cared for her with the utmost care, just as he would a real girlfriend.
Bermejo claimed that he carried Juanita in a delivery bag to show off to his friends, but the police seized the mummy from Bermejo and handed it over to the Peruvian Ministry of Culture.
The Peruvian Ministry of Culture, which took delivery of the mummy, said that the mummy was a “male” who died at an estimated age of 45 between 600 and 800 years ago, and that it is valuable historical material enough to be classified as a national cultural property. An anonymous expert from the Ministry of Culture jokingly added that the name ‘Juan’ (male name) would be more suitable for Mira than ‘Juanita’ (female name).
Peruvian police are said to be holding Bermejo in custody pending a more detailed investigation into the mummy.
