American actor and comedian Chris Rock made his statement a year after being slapped by actor Will Smith at last year’s Academy Awards.

According to foreign media such as the Associated Press and Time magazine on the 5th (local time), Rock mentioned the assault incident through a joke about Smith on the Netflix live show ‘Chris Rock: Selective Anger’.

The Rock started the broadcast by cracking a joke about the assault. “I’m going to try to put on a performance tonight that doesn’t offend anyone,” he said.

“I watched the movie ‘Liberation’ to see Smith get beaten up,” he said. In the film, Smith plays a black slave trying to escape for his family.

On this day, Locke said that Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, had admitted to having an affair in the past, and that “Pinkett Smith hurt him more than he (Smith) hurt me.”

Rock also said that Pinkett Smith criticized the Oscars as a white man’s party and called for a boycott of black actors. Rock was the Oscar host at the time.

Rock said, “People ask if I was sick, and I still feel sick,” but “I am not a victim. You will never see me cry.”

Regarding the reason for not fighting back at the time, he said, “We have different physiques. This friend (Smith) takes off his shirt and shoots a movie. He would never have seen me appearing in a movie with his shirt off,” he said. “He also played the role of Muhammed Ali.”

He also said that he did not respond because his parents were there, saying, “Do you know what my parents taught me? He added, “Don’t fight in front of white people.”

At last year’s Academy Awards, Rock was slapped by her husband, Smith, for making fun of Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia. The incident resulted in the Academy banning Smith from attending the ceremony for 10 years. Rock has remained silent about the assault over the past year despite requests from several media outlets.
