Brazil’s worst serial killer, who became famous for killing more than 100 criminals and the main character of the popular American drama ‘Dexter’, has been shot and killed by an assailant.
According to Reuters, on the 6th (local time), the Public Security Agency of Sao Paulo State announced in a statement that Pedro Rodriguez Filho, 68, died from multiple gunshot wounds in Modas Cruzis, southeast of Sao Paulo the day before. The shooters fled shortly after the attack.
Rodriguez was reportedly visiting his sister’s house at the time. His aunt said that while he was walking down the sidewalk with his baby in his arms, a black vehicle appeared and shot him. The child is unharmed.
Rodriguez became famous for claiming to have killed more than 100 criminals by the age of 19. Drug dealers, rapists, and murderers were his main targets. Later, he also murdered his father for abusing his own mother.
Rodriguez was charged with the murder of 71 people and sentenced to 128 years in prison. He was released on parole in 2018 after serving 42 years in prison.
In an interview with Brazilian media at the time of his arrest, he defended his murder by saying, “I did a good job for society by cleaning up the cowardly.” This earned him the nicknames ‘matador’ and ‘killer’ in Brazil, and became the motif of the American drama ‘Dexter’ produced in 2006.
After his release, Rodriguez published a book about his tumultuous life and murders. His social network service (SNS) activities were also actively continued. He has become a famous Brazilian influencer by amassing more than 250,000 followers on the video platform ‘Kwai’ alone.
However, unlike before, he warned local youths through social media that ‘murder is not something to brag about and you should not commit a crime’. He also confessed before he was released that he had committed the murders for revenge and pleasure.
