Movie scenes were experienced during the morning of this Wednesday in the Santiago de Chile airport. It was when a group of commandos consisting of around twelve criminals attempted to rob a security van and engaged in a vicious shootout with the police which resulted in at least two deaths.
The dramatic and violent episode took place just before 8:30 am, when the heavily armed attackers arrived in the W sector of the terminal and broke down a gate with the intention of stealing the load from a security van. To achieve this, they would present supposedly forged credentials.
However, the personnel of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, in charge of the security of the fence, became aware of the maneuver and a fierce shootout began with the criminals who got away two dead.
As a result of the intense exchange of blows, a DGAC guard lost his life, while the other victim was one of the attackers. His accomplices managed to escape.
In their escape, they left four burnt out vehicles on the escape route. The authorities assured that they could not take the money.
