A mother wanted to issue a warning and sensitize other parents to always be “on guard” with their pets, especially with strong and violent dogs, after the family bull terrier nearly ripped off their young son’s face. So that there is no doubt about what these attacks are, he has chosen to publish many photos of his son with a disfigured face and the current state.
Jodie Griffith35-year-old says even ‘trusted’ pets can maim children after two-year-old Romywas savagely attacked on the sofa at his home in Walsall, West Midlands, on the outskirts of Birmingham.
Jodie was at work on Dec. 27, 2021 when she received the heartbreaking call from her partner that their son had been badly bitten
The little boy and his siblings were playing in the living room with some flying helicopters while Blizzardthe eight-year-old family dog slept on the nearby couch. Seeing the toys flying, the dog went crazy.
Romy’s father, Daniel Griffiths, 32, looked away for just a second before the boy screamed in pain and turned to find him covered in blood after he a single bite would go through his nose.
The distressing photos that the mother is now publishing show how little Romy was left with deep lacerations on his nose and face, the fractured jaw and even teeth lost to attack.
Parents say the dog, that he was her son’s “best friend”.he had never been aggressive before, leaving them convinced the flying toy had jolted him awake and lunged at the shocked boy’s face.
“I was at work and got a call from my partner saying the dog had bitten the baby. I was so scared and couldn’t believe it. I still have a hard time understanding it. When I got home, Romy was covered in blood. and my partner too,” said the woman.
“I was screaming and then started falling asleep; doctors said it was due to shock. Then they gave him morphine until he went to surgery. We didn’t realize how serious it was until after his surgery because no one let us see him,” the shocked woman said.
“He broke his jaw. tore off his whole nose, she pulled out three of his teeth, had to give him hundreds and hundreds of stitches… They lost count of how many,” Jodie said of what the doctors told her at Wolverhampton New Croft Hospital, where he was treated urgently.
From there, Romy was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery the next day to stitch up her nose and rebuild her face. What was supposed to be a two-hour operation ended up taking five for the massive damage to the baby’s face, followed by two nights in the hospital.
Beloved dog Blizzard has been a part of the family for most of his eight years of life since he was a puppy and he had never shown signs of aggression before.
Jodie said the police officers who arrived at her home first after the assault agreed what happened was an “accident” and initially they decided to keep the animal but taking precautions of all kinds.
However, then Jodie…mother of eight children– He changed his mind and argued that he could never trust the pet inside his home again, so he was turned over to an institution to be relocated.
Jodie said: “Blizzard has always been a family dog who loved to play, loved the ruckus and wanted to be involved in everything. He was a good, tender dog and the kids loved him to death. He was also Romy’s best friend.”
