A man’s whole life was destroyed after he found out he is genetically related to the mother of his two young children. On a Reddit forum She said she never knew anything about her biological parents, since she was given up for adoption under a regime called “closed adoption.” That way, he never found out if he was blood related to other people.
But now the story exploded dramatically when genetic studies were carried out to find out if he could donate a kidney to his wife. The response, of course, has been extraordinary.
“My wife fell ill shortly after the birth of our son and now needs a kidney transplant. We checked with his relatives and none were compatible or a viable donor.”
“I knew it would be a gamble, so I decided to get tested to see if I could donate. I got a call the other day saying I was compatible,” the anonymous told the social network.
“Then the doctor said something about wanting to do more testing because of some information from the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results. I didn’t think much about it and accepted.”
But when the results came in, man he learned that he and his wife had an “abnormally high match rate.”
“I was shocked and confused,” he added. She explained that because of the way DNA information is passed down from generation to generation, parent to child could have at least a 50% match, and siblings could have a 0 to 100% match.
“It was strange having a tall couple as husband and wife. I asked what that means.” The man went on to explain how he met her wife eight years ago when she was working out of her hometown office.
At the time, the couple exchanged phone numbers and arranged to meet whenever he traveled to their city for work until they were given the opportunity to move their jobs there permanently.
She said, “We’re related, no, I’m not kidding. I don’t know what to do to move forward, but I know it can be wrong. She is my wife and the mother of our children.”
After sharing their discovery on Reddit, users shared their thoughts on how they could have handled it better this extremely unfortunate situation.
One user said, “I mean you’re already married with kids by now, you can’t take it back, so I don’t see much point in blowing up worlds, I guess.” Another user added, “You already have kids and they should be healthy as you haven’t mentioned any abnormalities.”
“If you’re happy, you’re happy. Donate your kidney to your sister-wife and continue to be a great father to your children.”
A third user said: “Everything has been great all this time, there is no point in changing it.”
sibling marriage
Article 47 of the Civil Code prohibits marrying relatives in the direct line (parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren) and in the collateral line (siblings) up to the third degree, even if uncles and nephews can do so with judicial permission.
