Finland has been ranked as the world’s happiest country for the sixth year in a row. Global average happiness levels have returned to pre-pandemic levels.
According to the average happiness ranking for the three years from 2020 to 2022 of the ‘World Happiness Report’ published by the Gallup World Opinion Survey, Korea ranked only 57th. In terms of the world’s top 10 gross domestic product (GDP), it ranked 9th, barely avoiding the last place.

The rankings are based on health life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support, generosity among members of society, and freedom to make important life decisions.

John Helliwell, one of the authors of the World Happiness Report, analyzed that “even in these difficult times, positive emotions were twice as strong as negative emotions, and feelings of trying to keep society positive were twice as strong as loneliness.”

Helliwell told CNN that people “feel more self-satisfied when they take care of someone than when they are number one.”
