Brazil: a supporter of Lula killed a Bolsonarista with two shots after a political discussion

A supporter of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a supporter of former president Jair Bolsonaro assassinated after a political discussion, in a state in the Amazon region.

Edno Abadía Gomes, 60, killed by two bullets in the abdomen Valter Fernando da Silva, 36, after a heated controversy in a bar in the municipality of Jaclara, Mato Grosso Local police reported on Monday night.

In testimony to the carabinieri, the owner of the bar declared that the strong discussion took place because of “political causes“.

The victim died almost instantly in the bar, before a medical team arrived and verified the customer’s death.

After the shootings, Abadía Gomes gave way in a vehicle that he abandoned about 10 kilometers from the crime scene, and is now wanted by the police.

Lula’s press office repudiated the crime on Monday evening: “The president has already said, and is now reiterating, that there is no justification for political violencedifferences must be resolved through dialogue, never by shooting,” the statement read.

In September, another death due to a political discussion

The rifts between followers of Lula and Jair Bolsonaro are not new. In September last year, and in another heated political debate, a Bolsonorist supporter stabbed one of Lula’s supporters to death.

An event was also recorded in the Mato Grosso area. Rafael Silva de Oliveira, a 22-year-old man, stabbed to death another 44-year-old, Víctor Oliveira, after another heated political argument.

The killing took place on a rural farm near the town of Confresa in west-central Brazil, where the two men were working together chopping firewood when they got into their deadly heated argument about politics.
