A tourist from Hong Kong, who was touring Thailand, was bungee jumping when the rope around his ankle broke and he fell and was injured.

On the 23rd (local time), CNN released a video of a man who fell while bungee jumping at an amusement park in Pattaya, Thailand in January this year. According to reports, the man bungee jumped from the height of a 10-story building.

In the released video, as the man descended, the bungee jumping rope tied to his ankle became more and more taut and then suddenly broke with a ‘pop’. The man just fell into the water. Fortunately, he miraculously survived.

The victim told CNN, “It was really high, so I had my eyes closed, but when I tried to open my eyes, I realized that the rope broke and I fell into the water.”

His feet were tied to bungee jumping ropes, but he managed to get out by swimming desperately. He said, “If a person who couldn’t swim had been left out, he would have been in great danger.”

The man said that the amusement park refunded the amount of bungee jumping and paid part of the medical expenses. At the same time, he told Hong Kong media hk01, “The treatment cost was about 50,000 Hong Kong dollars (about 8.32 million won), but the company compensated only about 2,300 Hong Kong dollars (about 383,000 won).”

In response, the man told the amusement park side, “Not only was I injured in this accident, but my travel plans and my friends were disrupted, and my income was also lost.” He said he had sent an email asking for compensation, but hadn’t received a response yet.

In this regard, an amusement park official told CNN, “This is the first time the bungee jumping rope has broken.”

The person in charge explained, “Guests sign a disclaimer stating that they will not legally hold the amusement park responsible for accidents that occur while using bungee jumping.”

He continued, “Our employee explained to the victim that the company would pay for the treatment if any misfortune occurred or an accident occurred.” However, no other compensation can be claimed.”
