“Putin Can’t Receive Xi Jinping’s Promise of Support”
China, “no news to provide” in response to related questions

While Chinese President Xi Jinping has repeatedly expressed his intention to mediate the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “I will invite President Xi to Ukraine. He is ready to talk to him,” he revealed.

In an exclusive interview with the Associated Press on the 28th on a train heading from northeastern Sumy to the capital Kiu, President Zelensky said, “I had contacted President Xi before the Russian invasion, but I haven’t met him for over a year since then.” He emphasized that he was ready to see.

On the 24th of last month, a year and two days after the Russian invasion, President Xi unveiled a plan for the two sides to conclude a peace agreement through Chinese mediation. On the 20th and 22nd of this month, he visited Moscow, Russia, and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two only repeated their principled position, such as ‘respecting international law’, and the ‘complete withdrawal of Russian troops’ demanded by Ukraine was not included at all.

It is unclear whether Xi will accept the invitation. When asked about this at a press conference on the 29th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning replied, “I have no news to offer.” Earlier on the 23rd, Mikhailo Podolyak, an adviser to President Zelensky, also said, “We are pushing for a summit meeting with China, but it has not been confirmed because the position of the Chinese side has not been decided.” President Zelensky said that President Putin did not receive the promised arms support from China, saying, “He (Putin) has no allies. It is isolated internationally.” He pointed out that President Putin’s recent insistence on deploying strategic nuclear weapons in Belarus every day is also an announcement to cover up the fact that he has not received support from China.

The possibility that President Putin will actually use nuclear weapons is also low. “He might be able to use nuclear weapons, but I don’t think he is ready for it,” said President Zelensky.
