It is always valid to refresh the stories that feed the mythical character of the Titanic. What has returned to the limelight for the 25 years of the film and is undoubtedly the most inexplicable of all is that of the mysterious poisoning with “angel dust”.
On August 9, 1996, while James Cameron, Leonardo Dicaprio, Kate Winslet and company were filming Titanic, About 80 people on the production team were poisoned by consuming clam chowder that contained “angel dust”.also known as “PCP”.
The “angel dust” is phencyclidine, a drug that was used as an anesthetic in the 1950s and has hallucinogenic effects. Imagine what came of it.
Dozens of team members were wall-walking within minutes of eating the dish. Only acquaintances Bill Paxton AND James Cameron they got busted by mistake.
The warden didn’t make it to the hospital as he forced himself to vomit before doing so, but many others, like Paxton, had to rush to a guard.
In a conversation with the Calgary Herald, Paxton and Cameron acknowledged that whoever made the soup put many people in danger.
Paxton told Entertainment Weekly, “Some people laughed, some cried, some threw up. One minute I felt fine, the next I felt so anxious I wanted to breathe into a paper bag. Cameron felt the same way.”
A few months ago, Vulture interviewed team members on the matter. “We had a room for operators and electricians, and one of the guys started talking very hyperactively,” she recalled. Jake Clarke.
“He’s a big guy, over 6’2, and he’s like, ‘Are you okay? Why not me.’ And just as he was saying that, we saw Cameron running out the door and an extra running after him. He said, ‘There’s something about me! Get it out!” added the pro.
the decorator Claudio Roussel he recalled that Paxton sat next to him in the hospital “enjoying a buzz” as some technicians rode up and down the corridors of the clinic in wheelchairs.
A cast member, Lewis Abernathyhe recalled in DiCaprio’s 2012 biography that “there were people walking around completely insane” that day.
“Jim (Cameron) was getting into the back of the van – I was shocked by the way he looked. One eye was completely red, like the Terminator’s eye, one pupil, no iris, beet red. The other eye looked like it was sniffing glue from when I was four,” Abernathy added.
The episode was investigated by the police, but no explanation was ever found. It is not known who made the soup, so there have been no charges for the fact.
