Bob Lee, 43, the founder of Cash App, an American mobile payment service, was stabbed to death.
According to foreign media such as Reuters and NBC on the 5th (local time), Lee was attacked on a street in San Francisco, USA at around 2:35 am the previous day (4th).
After receiving the report, the police immediately rushed Lee to the hospital, but Lee eventually died. The exact cause of his death is still unknown and his culprit has not been caught.
Authorities did not disclose that Lee was the victim, but news of his death was later spread through his family.
“I lost my best friend, my son, on the streets of San Francisco early this morning,” Lee’s father, Richard Lee, wrote on Facebook. Everyone will miss him.”
Lee is the co-founder of Cash App, a mobile payment service that allows you to transfer money or pay bills with your smartphone.
He also served as chief product officer (CPO) of virtual currency startup MobileCoin and chief technology officer (CTO) of Square (current block), an online payments company founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.
He also had a reputation as an investor, such as participating in early investments in SpaceX, led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The news of his death led to a wave of condolences on social media.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Dorsey wrote on his social media account. “He played a very important role in Square and Cash App.”
Mobile Coin CEO Joshua Goldbard commented, “Lee had a lot of dreams and was a person who could make anything he imagined into reality.”
Musk also expressed his condolences and said, “I am very sorry for the news of his death.”
