Polish state-owned gas company PGNiG, which plans to end its imports of Russian natural gas by the end of the year, said on Tuesday that Russian gas giant Gazprom had announced that it will stop deliveries as soon as Wednesday morning.
In a press release, PGNiG denounced a breach of the contract binding it to Gazprom and indicated that it intended to take steps to restore these gas deliveries.
PGNiG buys about 60% of Polish natural gas imports from the Russian gas giant, through the Yamal gas pipeline, according to the BBC network.
While some voices have been raised in favor of a European embargo on Russian energy imports, European countries are aware of the risk that sanctions imposed on Moscow will encourage Vladimir Putin’s regime to limit flow. of oil and gas stations or even completely close. the faucet.
According to the BBC, this new development is not an immediate problem for Warsaw, whose underground storage is almost 70% full, especially since the demand for natural gas is lower with the advent of summer season.
Poland already plans to end its Russian gas imports by the end of the year, when its long-term supply contract with Gazprom expires and the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline comes on stream.
The capacity of this new project, which is supposed to make it possible to transport gas from Norway to the Danish and Polish markets, should make it possible to replace Russian deliveries.
