In the last few hours, the Dalai Lama has been trending on social networks after a video in which he is seen went viral kissing a child on the mouth and asking him to suck his tongue.
The clip that sparked outrage on Twitter is from February 28, 2023, when the head of the Central Tibetan Administration and spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism was at an M3M Foundation event in India.
Tenzin Gyatso -the Dalai Lama-, 87 years old, was with a group of 120 students who had graduated. While he was making his speech, a boy interrupted him and he made him get on where he was.
There, according to media such as Tribune India and India Times, she greeted him with a kiss on the mouth, hugged him and finally, before saying goodbye with a “thank you”, asked him to “suck his tongue”.
“Since I came to live in India, I have been able to meet all kinds of people, including scholars and scientists, who are interested in methods of achieving the peace of mind that has kept us alive,” the Dalai Lama told the young people. at that event.
The reactions
Generated video of Voice of America broadcast on social networks all kinds of reactions on twitter.
“Parents, don’t neglect your children”, “Incredible and they see it as normal”, “I have read books and sentences of the Dalai Lama and he has always seemed super nice! Especially when he talks about pains or processes, but seeing this I completely fell on the ground!”, were some of the comments of repudiation.
Some, a little more conciliatory, expressed: “I see that many are upset by this. But we must understand that some cultures are different from ours. I do not deny the existence of the ASI. But we have to understand cultural contexts that are different from ours”.
“I have read that Tibetans stick out their tongues in greeting and wishes for peace. But from there to kissing a child on the mouth and asking him to take his tongue. This is not part of that millennial culture! Apart from the strong scene, it is dirty and aberrational! It’s detestable!” added another person.
The official Twitter account for Tibetan administration news shared a clip of the moment, but omitted the much-commented portion on that social network.
“During his meeting with students and members of the M3M Foundation in the courtyard of Thekchen Choeling Tsuglagkhang, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama advised a young Indian man to admire a good human being who always works to cultivate peace and happiness in the world ,” wrote Tibet.net of the controversial incident.
Many tweeters who responded to the tweet did not miss the opportunity to comment on the incident: “People always think that a man like him is a god. Big mistake. He’s just a human being, perversions included.”
