China has dismissed speculation that it could make an impact on Twitter after the social network’s sale to billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday (26).

“I could see what they were predicting,” Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, was asked about. Said. “There’s no real basis for this,” he added.

Last Monday (25), Amazon’s founder, American billionaire Jeff Bezos, hinted that China would have a new domain with Musk’s acquisition of Twitter.

Referring to a post on Twitter that referred to Musk’s parent company, electric car maker Tesla’s dependence on China, Tycoon said, “Has the Chinese government just gained some influence in the town square?” he asked.

“My answer to that question is probably no. The most likely outcome is Tesla’s complexity rather than Twitter censorship in China. But we’ll see. Musk is very good at handling that kind of complexity,” added Bezos.

About half of the electric cars sold by Tesla are made in Shanghai, China’s most populous city, and the company also relies on lithium batteries made in the Asian country.

Last Monday, Twitter’s board accepted an offer to sell 100% of the company to Musk for approximately $44 billion. With this, the social network will become a sole proprietorship private company.

But the operation still needs approval from shareholders and regulators.
