Donald Trump returns to New York to testify in another fraud trial

Former President Donald Trump is expected to go to the New York attorney general’s office on Thursday for a new appeal in a legal battle over his company’s business practices. This is the second time in a week that the former president is called to court, but for separate cases.

It’s also the second time he’s had to testify in this particular fraud case.

The Republican is expected to meet with the attorney general’s attorneys Joy James, which sued Trump last year. The lawsuit of him claims that Trump and his family defrauded banks and business partners giving them false information about his net worth and the value of assets such as hotels and golf courses.

The request it is unrelated with the criminal charges brought against Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney, which last week led to his historic appearance, the first by a former president.

Trump and his lawyers have said the Democratic lawsuit against him is politically motivated and lacks legal basis. He and the company deny any wrongdoing. James declined to answer a question about the planned statement at a press conference on an unrelated topic that took place Wednesday.

400 times did not answer

Trump had previously met with James’ attorneys on Aug. 10, but he refused to answer all but a few procedural questions. invoking the Fifth Amendment guarantee against self-incrimination more than 400 times.

“Anyone in my situation who doesn’t accept the Fifth Amendment would be a fool, a total fool,” he said during the session, which was videotaped and later released publicly. Trump predicted that a “rogue” prosecutor would try to build a criminal case with his answers, if he provided them.

“A statement or response that is slightly wrong, just slightly, by accident, by mistake, such as if it was a beautiful sunny day, when in fact it was slightly overcast, would be received by law enforcement to a degree rarely seen in this country, because I’ve experienced it,” he said.

The lawsuit It is scheduled for October.

It’s unclear whether Trump will answer any questions in his second statement, which will be held privately if it goes as planned.
