Mr. A is suspected of killing Mr. B, his partner, with a weapon in Donghae, Gangwon-do, in May of last year.

The judge said, “If you look at the various circumstances that are conditions for sentencing shown in the record, such as the age and behavior of the accused, environment, relationship with the victim, motive for the crime, means and result, and circumstances after the crime, the lower court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. It cannot be said that maintaining the verdict was unfair.”

In 2001, Mr. A was sentenced to 8 years in prison for murdering his ex-wife Mr. C, whom he lived with, when he said that he wanted to break up with him, saying, “I can’t live together anymore.”

After being released on parole in February 2009, Mr. A moved to Vietnam and remarried a local woman, but he committed an affair with another local woman shortly after. He tried to remarry the affair partner again and killed the affair partner’s mother who was against her remarriage.

A, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Vietnamese court, was released from prison in 2020 after serving about 8 years and 5 months and was deported to the Republic of Korea. However, less than two years after he was banished, he committed another murder.

According to the court, Mr. A received a total score of 32 as a result of the ‘high-risk psychopath (antisocial personality disorder)’ test. The higher the score on the test, the higher the antisocial personality disorder. Yoo Yeong-cheol, known as a rare murderer, scored 38 points, child sex offender Jo Doo-soon 29 points, and serial killer Kang Ho-soon scored 27 points in this test. Mr. A was included in the high-risk group like them.

The first trial judge said, “The method and content of killing the victim are cruel and severe, so the crime is extremely bad and the possibility of condemnation is very high.” ” he judged.

He continued, “There is a history of being punished for two previous murders, and the interval between the end of the punishment and the recidivism is short.” It is very high,” and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The 2nd trial court also said, “The crime of murder is a serious crime that violates the life of a person, the highest legal interest protected by the law, and cannot be justified for any reason.” A’s appeal was dismissed.
