The Press Office of the Holy See stated, “Due to knee pain and following medical advice, Pope Francis has interrupted activities planned for today, including participation in the Conclave, whose new session continues.” Said.

Persistent knee pain has already led to changes in the protocols of the pope’s celebrations to prevent wear and tear.

At the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion on April 15, Francis stopped prostrating to the ground to pray before the cross in St. Peter’s Basilica. Two days later, he could not pronounce the Easter blessing standing up and had to sit in the middle of the reading.

He also said in early April that his health was “somewhat capricious”. Jorge Bergoglio also has chronic problems with sciatica, a nerve that runs from the end of the lumbar spine to the foot.

The Pope comes from a busy schedule due to Easter celebrations and is expected to face a series of outings in the coming months.

A visit to Lebanon is planned for mid-June, but has not yet been officially confirmed. In early July, Francis will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan in Africa. At the end of the same month, the pope must travel to Canada.
