Celebrities walking and posing on the Met Gala 2023 red carpet’s worst fear has come true: two celebrities wore the same dress. Obviously in a different color.

Disgust in this case was taken by the actress Olivia Wilde and the director and editor of Vogue in China Margaret Zhang.

Both arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with the violin dress designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé SS 1983. Wilde’s, white; Of Zhang, black.

Both wore the Lagerfeld outfit because this year Vogue organized the Met Gala in tribute to the German designer who passed away in 2019.

The reactions

As expected, did they echo the misunderstanding on Twitter? and the social network was filled with comparative photos. Olivia or Margherita? White or black?

“Wearing the same dress as someone else to a social event is awful,” wrote one person for example.

“Wow, we’ve never seen this before. Two celebrities repeating one dress: Margaret Zhang and Olivia Wilde. Let’s be honest, how beautiful Margaret is,” said another user.

“She (Margaret Zhang) is using the same as Olivia Wilde to get it 8x better, hahaha,” added a third.

What is the dress code this year?

Like every year, the Met Gala has a dress code (o dress code). In 2023 it is simply “in honor of Charles”.

Karl Lagerfeld, although he is no longer physically present with us (he died in 2019), is the protagonist of the celebration. The event revolves around his work and his legacy under the name “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. There’s also an exhibit that has dozens of her previously unseen clothes and sketches.

The German couturier stood out in the second half of the 20th century for his work for renowned fashion houses, such as Balmain, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand.

What is the Met Gala?

Quoting the Vogue website, the Met Gala is a charity event advertised as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is traditionally organized to celebrate the opening of its annual fashion exhibition.

Designed since 1995 by Wintour, the event raises eight-figure sums year after year. The guests, which usually number around 600, stay in nearby hotels the nights before and after him.

In addition to being frequented by high-profile celebrities, the Met Gala always welcomes young creatives and new models in the industry.

Information that carries an aura of mystery: what happens at each ceremony after the red carpet is secret. Attendees aren’t allowed to use their phones during the event, so there are never any photos or videos of the celebration itself.

What is known is that a high-profile artist always exhibits there (as Justin Bieber and Rihanna once knew how to do) and that celebrities explore the current exhibition before meeting each other.
