The same animal had “communicated” on his Instagram that he will not participate in the event organized by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

“Thank you so much to all of you my fans, animal lovers and dad fans. All of you have shown the kindest enthusiasm and unconditional support, I say THANK YOU!” begins the message.

And he concludes: “Many people have invited me to walk the red carpet of #METGALA2023 in homage to dad, but we prefer to stay quiet and cozy at home. We pay tribute to my Papi every day since his departure and are very excited to see another day dedicated to him. With love, forever. Choupette”.

In this way it became clear that the cat, heir to a large part of the designer’s fortune, was not present at the Red carpet of the MET for a topic of safety. Its owner, Lagerfeld’s former housekeeper Francoise Caçotehe preferred not to expose it to the hustle and bustle of an event with the characteristics of the Met Gala.

Who is Choupette?

Choupette, who is 12, in a Sacred Burma or Burmese purebred cat that accompanied Lagerfeld in his last years of life. When the designer died in 2019, Caçote was responsible for it.

Karl’s former housekeeper was one of the people who received part of the “kaiser of fashion” fortune. Although it is not known how much money Choupette inherited, it is assumed that Lagerfeld, in choosing Caçote as his heir, destined part of his millions to care for the animal until the end of his life.

Choupette’s fame eventually surpassed that of Lagerfeld. She is a figure in her own right: on Instagram alone, the glamorous cat amasses more than 160,000 followers.

What is the Met Gala 2023 dress code?

Like every year, the Met Gala has a dress code. In 2023 it was “in honor of Charles” in homage to Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld, although he is no longer physically present with us (he died in 2019), is the protagonist of the celebration. The event revolves around his work and legacy under the name “Karl Lagerfeld: a beauty line”. There is an exhibition that will present dozens of his unpublished clothes and sketches.

The couturier stood out in the second half of the 20th century for his work for renowned fashion houses, such as Balmain, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand. So the Met 2023 looks will be very varied.

What is the Met Gala?

Quoting the Vogue website, the Met Gala is a charity event advertised as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is traditionally organized to celebrate the opening of its annual fashion exhibition.

Designed since 1995 by Wintour, the event raises eight-figure sums year after year. The guests, which usually number around 600, stay in nearby hotels the nights before and after him.

In addition to being frequented by high-profile celebrities, the Met Gala always welcomes young creatives and new models in the industry.

Information that carries an aura of mystery: what happens at each ceremony after the red carpet is secret. Attendees aren’t allowed to use their phones during the event, so there are never any photos or videos of the celebration itself.

What is known is that a high-profile artist always exhibits there (as Justin Bieber and Rihanna once knew how to do) and that celebrities explore the current exhibition before meeting each other.
